LED lamps replacing CFLs in concourse line tunnels

LED lamps are slowly making their way through the Concourse Line tunnels; compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in the southbound tunnel from south of 170th Street to 145th Street were recently replaced.

First introduced during the recent wave of “FASTRACK” repairs, crews installed new LED lamps in areas where older lamps were non-functional for a long time. At first I thought only these areas would receive the new lamps; to my surprise, I saw them in the Concourse line tunnels (not that I mind of course; LED lamps are more efficient than CFLs anyhow). From these observations, I believe that all CFLs will eventually be replaced by the new LED lamps.

Speaking of the Concourse Line, work continues on the southbound local track between Fordham Rd and 182nd-183rd streets; southbound D trains will run express between Fordham Rd and Tremont Ave this weekend. The work involves rail replacement, from what I saw last week when the same service change was in effect.
